Mini Company News

All mini-companies are sustainable, with girls in the higher years training those in lower years so they are ready to take over when the time comes.

Listen
Launched in September 2007 with a difficult act to follow from last year’s radio team. Now a fully-fledged mini company I Listen broadcasts at Break time and also before school starts! They get most of their revenue from competitions and from advertising such ventures as the new Spotlight Company’s activities, such as Lunchtime Ents. The girls say they might even play some music the staff like some time, although they are not willing to go back as far as Mr Hunt can remember! Launched via a Summer School the year before last together with Spotlight and Reel to Reel.

Spotlight
Took over from the Lunchtime Ents. Committee with a brief to improve and extend their services and to operate as a company. They regularly produce lunchtime concerts and liaise with other companies, such as Fancy That Fancy and I Listen. They are also responsible for selling tickets and organising programmes, lighting and sound for all concerts.



Reel to Reel
Formed at the same time as I Listen and Spotlight. They operate the new equipment, including camera and software and make video of school events such as concerts and enterprise week, which they sell as part of their company programme. They provided a video for Year 7 ‘Settling In Evening’ which is now with our partner school in Saudi Arabia. Watch out, there’s a film-crew about!

Global news
A new company formed to communicate Avonbourne news far and wide: they also have a brief to contact our partner schools in Saudi Arabia, South Africa and France. They will have full reporting rights to report on all our achievements, including departmental and whole school, events.

Fancy that Fancy
Anyone with a party to go to can visit our new Fancy Dress company: with wigs and costumes galore they can match most requirements, even dressing teachers for Spotlight events! Their revenue comes from small hire-charges, and they operate as a fully-fledged shop with accounts and projections as all our other mini-companies.

ABC Books
ABC operate as a company providing services in the Learning Resource Centre. They are engaged in stock control and ordering and the general day to day running of the centre.


Global Dance
Promoting dance in all contexts in school, including concerts and lunchtime ents.
